THIS IS ROMFORD FC

A CLUB WITH HISTORY

With almost 150 years of history behind them, Romford FC is ready to build a strong future under the guidance and vision of Glenn Tamplin.

1ST GENERATION (1876-1978)

Romford FC is a club with history. It was originally founded in 1876 as a youth and development team in the City of Romford and remained united during World War 1 (1914-18).

It wasn’t until 1929 that the club established a senior first team, under new direction of Tom Macpherson, a local figurehead who later to become British Politician and subsequently Lord Macpherson. The club survived a second World War (1939-45) and through adversity built on the city’s unity and love for the game. One of the highlight of that era was reaching the Final of the Amateur Cup in 1949 in front of 95,000 spectators in the first Final to be held at Wembley Stadium.

Romford took the bold move of turning professional and joining the Southern League in 1959 and were promoted to the Premier Division in their first season after finishing second, and won the Premier Division in 1966–67.

During the early part of the 70’s the club saw little success and was forced to closed its doors to fans in 1978.

2ND GENERATION (1992-2019)

In 1992 the club was resurrected for a second time and joined the Essex Senior League which they remained in until winning the league in 1995–96 and gaining promotion to Division Two.

With a successful season behind them, they continued their winning form and  were crowned Division Two Champions with promotion to Division One in 1997-8 where they remained until 2001.

The early 2000’s saw Romford FC struggle. The club suffered back to back relegations, and the following five seasons saw little reward.

Romford FC returned to the Isthmian League after winning the Senior League in 2008–09. Unfortunately, for almost a decade thereafter, the club struggled to find true form, avoiding relegation season after season but never finding promotion either.

The one constant throughout the club’s history was, no matter what the results, the loyal Romford FC fans still believed in the club.

3RD GENERATION (2019-ONWARDS)

In 2019 the club was bought by football entrepreneur Glenn Tamplin with a very focused plan to rebuild and return the club to former glory.

Glenn’s vision ensured the club’s position in the Isthmian League in the 2020/21 with plan in full motion for 2020/21 with one single objective, promotion!

Under new ownership the club has leveraged its outreach and attracted players from bigger clubs, players with Premier League backgrounds and young up and coming talent who will help with the league.

2020/21 will be a season to remember.
